Peptide therapy is a prescribed program built around peptides, which are short chains of amino acids that act as signals in the body. At GIOSTAR, a nurse practitioner chooses and explains your plan, a licensed pharmacy prepares your medication, and lab work and follow-up keep the program on track.

The people who ask about it tend to train hard and travel often. They want one licensed provider to run the plan so they are not piecing it together from supplement aisles and forum threads. This article covers what a program includes, who supervises it, where the medication comes from and what happens at each step.

What peptides are

A peptide is a short chain of amino acids, the same building blocks that make up proteins. Your body already makes many peptides, and cells use them to pass signals to one another. Peptide therapy is a prescribed program that uses peptides as medication.

Because the program involves a prescription, it works differently from a supplement. A provider has to review your history and decide that it is medically appropriate before anything is prescribed. At GIOSTAR, that provider is a nurse practitioner who sees you in person in Henderson.

How a peptide therapy program works at GIOSTAR

Peptide therapy at GIOSTAR is a program, not a single product. Four parts make it up:

  • A nurse practitioner who chooses your protocol from your goal, your labs, your medications and your health history, then tells you what it is, why, and its price before you start.
  • Lab work drawn at a Quest location near you, with results back in about a week.
  • Medication from a licensed U.S. pharmacy, prepared under your name.
  • Follow-up about every 3 months, with labs rechecked and your plan adjusted with you.

You and your nurse practitioner pick a single goal first. Each protocol starts conservatively, and your provider adds another only after your body adjusts to the first.

Who prescribes peptide therapy and who oversees it

A nurse practitioner reviews your history and prescribes your protocol when it is medically appropriate. Our nurse practitioners guide every plan, with our registered nurse beside them. Dr. Ryan Peterson, our Medical Director, oversees care at the center, and our patient experience coordinator looks after your visits.

Ask anyone offering peptides the same questions. Who prescribes? Who reviews my labs? Who do I call when I have a question on a Tuesday night? A program that answers those clearly gives you something to hold onto.

Where the medication comes from

Each prescription comes from a licensed U.S. pharmacy, which prepares it under your name. Your nurse practitioner matches the medication to the plan you set together.

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. Before you start, your nurse practitioner tells you what your plan includes and answers your questions about the medication.

What happens at each step

Peptide therapy at GIOSTAR follows five steps.

  1. Free consultation. Our patient team talks with you, free and with no obligation. We explain how the program works, ask what you would like from your plan, walk you through each step and the pricing, and book your visit with a nurse practitioner.
  2. Meet your nurse practitioner. An in-person visit in Henderson. Bring your medication and supplement list and your health history, including pregnancy or breastfeeding and any ongoing medical conditions. Your nurse practitioner reviews your goals, confirms whether peptide therapy is right for you, helps you choose one goal and gives you the full total before you book.
  3. Labs. GIOSTAR orders your panel, and you book the blood draw at a nearby Quest location. Your nurse practitioner tells you ahead of time if you need to fast. Results arrive in about a week, and your nurse practitioner explains them.
  4. Your plan. When it is medically appropriate, your nurse practitioner prescribes your protocol and teaches you the injection at our Henderson wellness center. You learn how to store your medication and how to rotate injection sites, and whether your protocol runs continuously or in cycles with planned breaks.
  5. Follow-up. About every 3 months we recheck your labs. Each check-in covers how you are doing, how the plan is going and what to change.

What the injection is like

Most people feel a brief sting from a short, fine needle. Letting the dose reach room temperature first helps. We teach you at the center, and you can come back in any time if self-injecting makes you nervous.

If you stop

Your provider plans the stop with you and tells you whether your protocol needs tapering. Call us at 702.703.5393 any time between visits. Tell us right away about tingling or numbness in your hands.

Who peptide therapy may be right for

It often suits adults who train hard or travel often and want a prescribed plan from a licensed provider. Whether it suits you is a question about your own health, answered by your nurse practitioner after reviewing your history and every medication and supplement you take.

Athletes who face drug testing should check with their governing body before any treatment, and tell the provider at the consultation. People who also take hormone medication can often run both programs, after your provider reviews your hormone labs and history. See how hormone therapy works for that side of the picture.

What decides the total

Three things decide the total: the protocol your nurse practitioner chooses, your dose, and the lab work behind your plan. You get the full total at your free consultation, before you book anything. Insurance plans generally do not cover peptide therapy, so it is a self-pay service, and Cherry offers monthly payment plans for qualified applicants.
