At GIOSTAR, medical weight loss pairs a weekly injection with monthly check-ins on your dose, your labs and your progress.
What GLP-1 medicines are
Both semaglutide and tirzepatide belong to the class called GLP-1 medicines, which work with a gut hormone involved in appetite and fullness. Tirzepatide also works with a second hormone, GIP. When it is appropriate for you, your nurse practitioner prescribes the medicine.
Start low, step up
Your dose rises in steps at least 4 weeks apart, and reaching the full dose can take about 16 to 20 weeks, if you need it. Each month, your provider reviews your weight, body composition and side effects, then sets your next dose with you.

- Your nurse practitioner visit
- Next, meet your nurse practitioner in person at our Henderson wellness center. Bring your medication and supplement list. Tell us about your full health history, including pregnancy, breastfeeding or plans to become pregnant, any past pancreatitis, a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers, and any planned surgery or procedure with sedation. At the visit, your nurse practitioner confirms whether you qualify and gives you the full total before you book.
- Lab work
- You book the blood draw for your 100+ biomarker panel at a nearby Quest location after GIOSTAR orders it. Results come back in about a week, and your nurse practitioner reviews them with you before prescribing anything.
- Your plan and injection training
- Provided it is appropriate, your nurse practitioner prescribes the medicine and trains you on the weekly injection you give yourself at home. If you take the pill for birth control, ask us about backup while you take tirzepatide.
- Monthly check-ins
- At every check-in we track your weight and body composition, how you're handling each dose step, and your hunger and energy between doses. If vomiting or diarrhea keeps going, we check your kidney labs.
- If you miss a dose
- Call us before you take it. The right step depends on which medicine you use and how many days have passed. Never double up to catch up.
- Coaching
- Coaching covers the food side of your plan. Your coach builds meals around a daily protein target you set together, and your plan changes as your dose and appetite change. To add coaching, ask at any program visit.
- What's normal on a GLP-1 medicine
- Nausea can show up after a dose step, and for most people it fades within about a week. Smaller meals, slower eating and less greasy food help. For severe belly pain that won't stop, or vomiting that leaves you dehydrated, call us right away at 702.703.5393.

The program includes nutrition and lifestyle support, and coaching gives you one-on-one help with meals and protein. Most people do better with a few go-to meals than with a rigid menu.
For most people it shows up after a dose step and fades within about a week. Eating smaller meals, eating slower and cutting back on greasy food help. If nausea keeps you from holding down fluids for a day, call your nurse practitioner.
We plan any step down with you, along with the eating and strength habits you carry forward, and your provider sets the next step at your check-in.
