At GIOSTAR, exosome therapy is given by IV. A nurse practitioner places a small IV in your arm, the exosomes run in over 30 to 60 minutes, and you go home the same day.
Some providers offer other routes, such as a local injection. Ours is the IV, and this article follows it from arrival to the check-in two weeks later.
What goes into the IV
Exosomes are tiny particles that cells release to carry signals to other cells. The exosomes at GIOSTAR come from mesenchymal stem cells from screened donors. They carry no living cells.
The IV bag holds those exosomes in a sterile salt-water fluid. If you want the background first, read what exosome therapy is or where exosomes come from.
Before exosome therapy treatment day
Treatment day begins with two earlier steps.
- A free consultation with our patient team, online, by phone or in person. We explain how exosome therapy works at GIOSTAR and walk you through each step.
- An in-person visit with your nurse practitioner in Henderson. Bring your medication and supplement list, any allergies and your health history. Your nurse practitioner reviews your goals, recommends Exosome Wellness or Exosome High-Dose, and gives you the full total before you book.
Exosome Wellness is our standard dose. Exosome High-Dose is a larger dose, and we recommend it only when your history and goals call for it. Both are given by IV in one visit of about an hour.
Then, in the days before treatment:
- Skip alcohol for 48 hours.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Tell us about any blood thinners and pain relievers you take. Your nurse practitioner gives you clear instructions before your visit.
Exosome therapy treatment day, step by step
Here is the order of the visit.
Check-in and vitals
A team member under your nurse practitioner checks your blood pressure and pulse. This takes a few minutes and gives us a baseline for the visit.
Placing the IV
Your nurse practitioner places a small IV in your arm. Most people describe a needle stick and brief pressure. After that, you are connected and comfortable.
The infusion
The sterile salt-water fluid carries the exosomes in over 30 to 60 minutes. You sit in a recliner in a private treatment room at our Henderson wellness center. Bring a book, a tablet or your laptop. Many people read, answer email or simply rest.
Finishing and going home
When the bag is done, the IV comes out, and you go home the same day. There is no surgery, no incision and no hospital stay. We hand you aftercare instructions and our phone number before you leave.
What the exosome therapy dose conversation looks like
Dose is a decision your nurse practitioner makes with you, not a menu you choose alone. At your visit, they look at your history and your goals, and then recommend one of the two options. They also give you the full total for that option before you book, so you decide with the number in front of you.
Aftercare for exosome therapy
Aftercare for an exosome IV is short:
- Skip hard workouts for 24 hours.
- Keep drinking water.
- Go easy on alcohol.
Some people run a low-grade fever that fades within 48 hours. Your nurse practitioner reviews what to expect at your visit, and our exosome therapy side effects guide covers it in more detail. Call 702.703.5393 with any question.
The exosome therapy follow-up
At 2 weeks, we check in and decide together whether to repeat. Your nurse practitioner gives you the total for a repeat dose before you pay.
How exosome therapy differs from stem cell therapy in how it is given
Stem cell therapy gives the cells themselves, by injection into a treatment area or by IV. Exosome therapy gives the particles and no living cells, and at GIOSTAR it is always an IV. A stem cell treatment day runs 1 to 2 hours, while an exosome IV runs 30 to 60 minutes. Our stem cell therapy overview explains the other route.
What to bring to exosome therapy
Treatment day asks very little of you. Wear something comfortable with sleeves that roll up easily. Bring something to do for the hour, such as a book, a tablet or your laptop, since you will be seated in a recliner and many people use the time. Bring your medication list as well, in case a question comes up.
Because the IV runs 30 to 60 minutes, you can plan the rest of your day around it. Most people book it before lunch or in the late afternoon and carry on with their evening, keeping hard workouts for the next day.
If you have a question during the IV
Say so. Your care team is close by for the whole hour, and you can ask for a blanket, a glass of water or a pause to stretch. Nothing about the visit is rushed, and there is no wrong question to ask while the IV runs.
