Search for golfer's elbow and you will find tens of thousands of people asking the same thing each month. Some of them have never held a golf club. They have a sore spot on the inside of the elbow after a weekend of yard work, a stretch at the gym or a heavy week on the pickleball court.
This article explains what each common name refers to, why so many Las Vegas players run into them, and when to see a provider. It then shows where GIOSTAR fits: a plan for staying active, not a diagnosis.
What golfer's elbow and tennis elbow refer to
Both names are everyday terms for soreness around the elbow that shows up after repeated use. The difference is the side of the joint.
- Golfer's elbow is the name most people use for soreness on the inside of the elbow, the side nearest your body when your arm hangs by your side.
- Tennis elbow is the name for soreness on the outside of the elbow.
The names come from the sports where people noticed them first. Today they cover far more than golf and tennis. Players of pickleball and racquetball, people who lift weights, carpenters, painters and plenty of desk workers use both names.
These are search terms, not diagnoses. A provider who examines your elbow can tell you what is going on. We do not diagnose elbows at our wellness center, and nothing here is advice about a particular case.
Why Las Vegas players search golfer's elbow and tennis elbow
This valley plays outside. Golfers tee off at dawn across Henderson and Summerlin. Pickleball courts are full from spring through fall. Plenty of residents also hike Red Rock, climb at Calico Basin and lift at home. All of those habits ask a lot of the forearm and the elbow.
Two other things make it show up in a city like ours. First, many adults come to a sport later in life, and a body that has not swung a paddle or a club in years does not always match the enthusiasm. Second, summer heat, long days and tight schedules tend to cut into sleep and fluids, the basics that every active adult leans on. Our guide to pickleball injuries in Las Vegas covers how those basics play out on the court.
When elbow pain needs a doctor before anything else
See a physician or an orthopedic provider first if you have sharp, sudden or new pain, swelling, a pop, numbness or tingling in the hand, or soreness that keeps getting worse or wakes you at night. The same goes for any pain that follows a fall.
After a doctor has looked at you, a wellness plan can sit alongside their advice. That is the only lane we work in.
Everyday habits active adults use for elbow comfort
Coaches and physical therapists tend to repeat the same short list.
- Grip and equipment. A club, racquet or paddle with the wrong grip size makes the forearm work harder. A pro shop can fit you.
- Technique. A lesson or a few minutes with a coach can show whether your swing is asking too much of your arm.
- Warm-up. Easy movement before a round or a match, rather than a cold first swing.
- Strength work. Gentle forearm and shoulder work is part of many active adults' routines.
- Rest between sessions. Back-to-back heavy days leave less room to bounce back.
- Fluids and sleep. In July in Las Vegas, both slip fast.
These are general habits, not a prescription for your elbow.
How the Recovery Membership supports active adults with elbow concerns
The Recovery Membership at GIOSTAR is a plan for staying active. It includes monthly IV infusion credits, a discount on additional IVs and biomarker testing. You choose among the drips on our menu with your nurse practitioner, including Hydration IV, Immunity Boost IV, Performance & Recovery IV and the Myers Cocktail. Performance & Recovery IV carries amino acids and electrolytes and is built for active people.
A licensed professional places every IV at our Henderson wellness center, and a drip usually takes about an hour. Read more about IV therapy at GIOSTAR, or see how the sports injury and recovery program is laid out.
If you compete in a tested sport, check with your governing body before any treatment.
Why bloodwork anchors your GIOSTAR recovery plan
Your plan starts with your own numbers. The Diagnostic Lab Panel covers hormone, metabolic and biomarker bloodwork, with 100+ biomarkers from one morning draw at a Quest location near you. Results come back in about a week, and a nurse practitioner reviews every marker with you. Bloodwork is a paid service, and we confirm your total before you book.
With that in hand, you and your nurse practitioner can choose drips and a rhythm that fit your schedule, whether you play twice a week or five times. Our guide to what a full-body blood panel measures walks through the markers.
