Who is a candidate for stem cell therapy, in general terms

Who is a good candidate for stem cell therapy, in general terms: what a nurse practitioner reviews at GIOSTAR in Henderson and how a candidacy decision is made.

Stem cell therapy often suits people who want to stay active and would like to explore regenerative medicine with a licensed provider. Whether it suits you is a question about your own health, and your nurse practitioner answers it at your visit after reviewing your full history.

This article explains, in general terms, what goes into that decision at GIOSTAR, what to bring and what the conversation looks like. It helps you arrive at your consultation prepared.

The general profile of people who ask about stem cell therapy

The people who contact us about stem cell therapy are usually in their forties, fifties and sixties. They golf, hike, travel and spend time with grandkids, and they want to keep doing all of it. They are looking for a licensed provider who explains each step and gives a full total before they book.

That profile is a starting point, and your nurse practitioner confirms the fit with you in person.

Who decides stem cell therapy candidacy, and when

Your nurse practitioner decides, at an in-person visit at our Henderson wellness center. The sequence runs like this:

  1. Free consultation. You talk with our patient team, online, by phone or in person, with no obligation. We explain how stem cell therapy works at GIOSTAR and ask what you would like to keep doing.
  2. Nurse practitioner visit. Your nurse practitioner reviews your goals, confirms whether you are a candidate and gives you the full total before you book.

Nothing is booked before both steps. Dr. Ryan Peterson, our Medical Director, oversees care at the center.

What your nurse practitioner reviews for stem cell therapy

A candidacy review is a conversation about the whole person. In general terms, your nurse practitioner looks at:

  • Your full health history. Everything you have been through, as you remember it.
  • Every medication and supplement you take. Some change what is advisable, and some, such as ibuprofen-type pain relievers and blood thinners, need a plan around treatment day.
  • Any allergies. Include food, medicine and environmental allergies.
  • Your goals. What you would like to keep doing, and what a good plan looks like to you.

If lab work would add to your plan, GIOSTAR orders it and you book the blood draw at a nearby Quest location. Results come back in about a week.

Why the details matter

Each detail you share shapes the plan. A medication list tells your nurse practitioner what to pause and when. An allergy history tells your nurse practitioner what to plan around. Your goals decide how often we check in and what a repeat dose could look like. Skipping a detail because it seems small can cost you a better plan, so mention it.

Questions that help you decide about stem cell therapy before you visit

You do not have to settle every question first. A few quiet minutes of thinking before the visit still make it more useful. Ask yourself what you want treatment to fit into: a round of golf, a trip, a weekend with the grandkids. Ask how much time you can set aside for treatment day, how you would like to handle cost, and who in your life you want to include in the decision.

Many people bring a spouse or partner to the consultation, and often one partner has done most of the research. Our patient team is glad to answer questions from both of you, and nobody is asked to decide on the spot.

What to bring to your stem cell therapy visit

Bring these to your visit:

  • your medication and supplement list,
  • any allergies,
  • your health history,
  • and a short list of questions.

Writing the questions down the night before works well. Cost, cell sourcing, aftercare and timing are common ones. For the cell questions, see where stem cells come from and how donors are screened.

Other services at GIOSTAR beside stem cell therapy

Candidacy goes both ways. If a simpler option suits you better, our team tells you at your consultation. If stem cell therapy is not the right fit for you, your nurse practitioner talks through the alternatives with you. GIOSTAR also offers exosome therapy, IV therapy, hormone therapy and lab testing at the same Henderson wellness center, so there is more than one path to explore under one roof.

What happens if you are a stem cell therapy candidate

If your nurse practitioner confirms you are a candidate, you pick a plan together. Treatment is by injection or IV, treatment day takes 1 to 2 hours, and you go home the same day. You leave with written aftercare instructions and our number, and we check in at 2 weeks and every 3 months after that. Starting with a single treatment is an option, and some people choose a repeat dose around six months later.

The total depends on the number of treatment areas, injection or IV, and a single or repeat dose. See what happens at a stem cell therapy visit for the full walk-through, or what stem cell therapy is for the background.
